Steven C. MeierThese prints are from three small editions created at Ox-Bow one summer during my first lithography workshop. These images represent different aspects of nature, both found and imagined.
In addition to Landscape as a means to record Nature, the drawing and physical impressions of found objects became another way for me to record the natural beauty I discovered at this place. The "collections" represented here attempt to preserve both nature and the memory of experience.
A desire for collecting, as a way of preserving memory, came together simultaneously with my discovery of stone as a unique drawing medium. My background as a designer/draughtsman allowed me to appreciate the precise way in which the stone surface accepted detail and the nuances of etching and inking. In this particular experience, art became the process of coaxing the right visual expression from the stone. |
