John F. Miller has taught visual art media at various institutions including Northwestern University, University of Illinois, University of Chicago and his longest tenure of forty years teaching painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work has been shown in museums and galleries in the US and Europe. Although known as a painter and draftsman for over 50 years, he is most recently known for his large scale digital work employing multi-layered photographic images which are shattered and contorted into intensely hued abstract images.
“I use drawing, painting, photographs and anything else that’s available to use in various ways, to make new images on the computer. I then print the images on the computer from a large format ink jet printer.”
Pushing the boundaries of the media, Miller incorporates painterly characteristics of mark making to the digital platform.
